The Role of the Safety Advisor
As the owner of a UK-based business, you have several obligations under the law when it comes to keeping your employees and visitors safe while in the workplace. One of those obligations is the appointment of a dedicated safety advisor to ensure that the company’s legal obligations are being met. This requirement is laid out in Regulation 7 of the Management of the Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
While you can, of course, hire your own safety advisor or up-skill a member of your team to fulfil the role, many businesses prefer to instruct a remote, third-party safety advisor with a proven track record in the field as a more efficient and cost-effective solution to meeting their health and safety obligations.
What Can a Remote Safety Advisor Do For You?
A remote safety advisor offers a variety of benefits to any company in need of a competent person to ensure they comply with their legal health and safety obligations. These are just some of the ways in which they can help.
Policy Making and Development
A safety advisor will go through your current Health and Safety policy and update it, where required, to ensure compliance with the latest legislation. They will also provide a full H&S Management System that covers Equal Opportunities and Environmental policies, as well as key procedures related to H&S.
Accident Reports
Any workplace accidents can be reported to your remote safety advisor for consideration and assessment of existing and future risks.
Legal management
A safety advisor will ensure that your legal and moral obligations as an employer are delivered in full.
Expertise
Professional safety advisors have the knowledge and experience to deliver a first-class service and are always up-to-date with the latest legislative and regulatory changes. This allows you and your team to focus on your core business and leave H&S issues to the experts.
An integral part of the team
When you instruct a remote safety advisor as a consultant, you are usually allowed to include their CV in your corporate organisation chart, as well as tender applications for new projects.
Communication
A remote safety advisor will keep you and your team informed of any changes or developments in health and safety, as they pertain to your own workplace, the industry as a whole, or at a legislative level. This is done in the form of H&S briefings and bulletins that you can cascade to your staff or use as training talks.
Reduced costs
Hiring a remote safety advisor will save you time and resources, making it a cost-effective solution to your health and safety needs.
