What Is SafeContractor Accreditation and Why Do You Need It?
SafeContractor has been operating for more than 20 years, auditing tens of thousands of contractors across the UK to confirm that their health and safety procedures are adequate for the services they provide. The company was one of the original founders of SSIP (Safety Schemes in Procurement) and is well respected across the construction industry for their attention to detail in assessing their members prior to accreditation.
Here at Dromore Safety Services Ltd, we help contractors of every size prepare for their accreditation audit with the company. In this article, we will look at what SafeContractor accreditation is and how it can make a difference to your business.
What Is SafeContractor Accreditation?
As the name suggests, SafeContractor primarily covers health and safety processes within the construction industry. However, their remit doesn’t end there. Their accreditation scheme covers a variety of crucial business areas, including equal opportunity and diversity policies and environmental management practices. This makes it one of the industry’s most comprehensive accreditation schemes.
Do I Need SafeContractor Accreditation?
While there is no formal requirement to become SafeContractor accredited, many of your clients will expect you to be so. The scheme is highly respected in the industry as a way of demonstrating your commitment to on-site health and safety.
What Types of SafeContractor Accreditation Are There?
While there is only one form of SafeContractor accreditation, you can also become a SafeContractor member. This is often viewed as the first step towards gaining full accreditation and does come with a variety of benefits for your business. This includes everything from business insurance, discounted health and safety training, and trade discounts to free advice in the fields of law, human resources, and health and safety.
While you do not need to be accredited to become a SafeContractor member, you are expected to be one before you apply for accreditation. Membership on its own does not demonstrate that you are a safe contractor.
What Are the Benefits of SafeContractor Accreditation?
SafeContractor accreditation makes your company stand out amongst your competition. It allows you to demonstrate that all your health and safety processes are up-to-date and compliant with the latest legislation and HSE guidance. Not only does this assist you when bidding on tendered work, SafeContractor accreditation brings an additional benefit. The organisation runs its own online portal where buyers can search for accredited contractors in their area, giving you the opportunity to win more work or at least be approached for more tenders.
How Do I Apply for SafeContractor Accreditation?
To become accredited with SafeContractor, you are required to pass a detailed desktop audit. This involves a detailed questionnaire that is tailored to match the size of your business and the sectors in which you operate. On completing the questionnaire, you will submit your health and safety processes to be audited by SafeContractor.
This is where Dromore Safety Services Ltd can help. We ensure that all your health and safety processes are up-to-date prior to submitting your accreditation request. We compile the necessary paperwork required by the auditors and even assist you in answering the initial questions.
Client Feedback
We have recently engaged Michael Healy of Dromore Safety Services Ltd to advise us on Health and Safety and assist us in renewing our CHAS and SafeContractor accreditations. The service we've received has been very professional and efficient and the renewals, which used to take up so much of our time, have been quick and painless! Thank you so much Mike!
